Christian Lemmerz
(Director)
Visual artist Christian Lemmerz, born 1959 in Karlsruhe, Germany, and educated at The Academy of Fine Arts, Carrara, Italia, 1978-1982, and The Royal Danish Academy of Art, 1982-1986, is the originator and initiator of The Wake project together with visual artist Michael Kvium. Since 1982, Lemmerz & Kvium, alone and together, have been working with performances, films, cartoon strips and theatre. Together with the performance group Værst (Worst) they made the short film Grød (Porridge) in 1986 and in 1994 they made the feature film Voodoo Europa (Jury Special Award Winner at the San Francisco Film Festival in 1995). For many years, Finnegans Wake has been a pivotal point for both artists. In 1996, they presented the performance Failagain Wake at the art museum Arken and in 1997 Lemmerz dramatised the last ten pages of the book under the title Alp-Traum at the Betty Nansen Annexe Scene Edison.
